TED is a global community focused on meaningful change through the power of ideas. It started out in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, and Design. Since then, its scope has become even broader, from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages, online and in the real world. Today, many of the world’s leading thinkers and doers share their ideas at TED or on TED.com.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. These events are open source, local and community driven events that inspire innovation, thought leadership and visionary insight. Our event is called TEDxSJMC(St Johns Medical College), where x=independently organised TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized. Our TEDx organisers are made up of teachers, students and staff from the St Johns Medical College. We are passionate about all things TED and as educators, are in the business of spreading good ideas every day. At TEDxSJMC, TED Talk videos and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
We believe that conducting such an event will give our community opportunities to not only showcase a wide variety of people and ideas but also to have a different perspective and connect to the local and global community. The event will be held over the course of one day, 1st September at St. John's Medical College. We hope to integrate a diverse range of perspectives by inviting speakers from various backgrounds to speak under the umbrella of our theme - “360 degree”. The talks will come together to create a flow that inspires thought and discussion around some basic ideas that we wish to showcase 360 DEGREE.
