Smriti Rana, a Palliative Care Professional at Pallium India based in Trivandrum, Kerala.
Pallium India is a registered Charitable Trust set up by Padmasree awardee Dr. MR Rajagopal in 2003. It’s vision is to alleviate illness-related suffering in India by enabling access to effective pain relief and quality palliative care across the continuum of care. Pallium India works with individuals and organizations globally to catalyse and support the development of quality palliative care services; and with national and state level governments on policy related matters.
Smriti has trained in Integrative and Holistic Psychological Counselling. After losing several family members in one year to protracted and painful illnesses marked by the conspicuous absence of palliative care, she committed herself to the field. Since then, she has provided therapy and supportive consultations to families living with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, while advocating for better awareness and access.
Within Pallium India, Smriti oversees the programs and projects run by the organisation, including National Outreach, gender equity in healthcare, children’s palliative care and several others, apart from training and mentorship programmes.
Smriti has a special interest in caregiver empowerment, addiction issues, global dynamics in drug control policies and health equity, and advocacy for advance medical directives.
